WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK ABOUT THIS STORY?
So, other than the fact that I'm a huge fan of this story, how do other people feel about this story? Well, I managed to gather various reviews and articles about this story from around the web and see just how many reviewers had actually liked or hated this story!
FROM ARTICLES AND CRITICS
CHICAGO TRIBUNE (1991) - "Onto the ship he goes and off to see the czar, picking up a company of weird and raffish shipmates who help in his quest. It is a wacky, colorful, funny yarn that turns out OK, except, perhaps, for the czar`s long-suffering daughter."
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY (1991) - "This static quality can be tedious to the viewer, but not this time: Drescher, a well-established illustrator of children’s books (Poems of A. Nonny Mouse), creates pictures teeming with brightly colored, gleefully exaggerated figures. His characters’ noses dangle from their faces like warty cucumbers; their limbs bend at impossible angles and snake out at the viewer."
LOS ANGELES TIMES (1991) - "Williams’ absurdities are surpassed only by Henrik Drescher’s out-of-this-world illustrations. The award-winning children’s book artist has created anatomy and landscapes not to be found on this Earth, where noses defy description, everything defies gravity and snaggle-toothed grins and grimaces cleave faces almost in two."
FILMS IN BOXES (2011) - "This was… one of the craziest animations I’ve ever seen. I guess it’s just the art style which is just so goddamn out there and bizarre (which I guess makes sense, since this is Drescher’s only IMDb credit whatsoever) combined with the eternally-running engine that is Robin Williams… It’s nuts."
366 WEIRD MOVIES (2023) - "Drescher’s drawings are often ugly, sometimes even deranged, but filled with such joyful anarchic spirit that director Craig Rogers doesn’t need to do much more than add a little Ken Burns-effect here and there. The illustrations, set to Williams’ energetic performance, do the lion’s share of the work."

BOOK BESOTTED LIBRARIAN (2011) - "The art is odd, but this really is a weird story, and some of the characters would become even more grotesque if drawn in a traditional realistic style. I like that his flying ship has little animal legs (Baba Yaga esque?)and I really enjoy the shaggy haired weakling turned bald strongman."
